Eugene G. Milefchik, 74, of Moline died Dec. 5, 2004, at Trinity Medical Center, West Campus, Rock Island, after a brief illness.
Funeral mass will be 10 a.m. Friday at Christ the King Catholic Church, Moline. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, with a rosary at 4 p.m. at Esterdahl Mortuary, 6601 38th Ave., Moline. Burial will be in National Cemetery, Arsenal Island, with military honors conducted by Moline American Legion Post 246. Memorials may be made to Christ the King Catholic Church, Moline.
Eugene was born Dec. 6, 1929, in Pocahontas, Iowa, to George and Mary Holder Milefchik. He married Margaret Dale on Aug. 13, 1951, at Sacred Heart Church, in Pocahontas.
Eugene was a Marine Corps veteran, serving in the Korean Conflict. He moved his family to Moline in 1958, when he started at the Rock Island Arsenal. He was an industrial specialist at the Arsenal for 32 years. He also taught the high school classes at the Arsenal. He retired in 1987.
Eugene was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church, Moline. He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. He especially had a huge soft spot for his great-grandchildren. He also loved to garden. He had a gift for blooming African Violets. He enjoyed wood working and was a diehard Hawkeye fan. His favorite slogan, "I was in Iowa before Iowa was in" fit him all the way.
Eugene will be sadly missed as he was our rock in all our lives.
Survivors (and spouses) include his wife, Margaret; children, Margene (Greg) Willis, Dale (Susie) Milefchik, Ron Milefchik, Gary (Margaret) Milefchik, Kathy (Doug) Vanatta, Diane (Brian) Maere, Rick (Deann) Milefchik; 21 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; mother, Mary Milefchik; siblings, Loretta, Betty, Peg, Jack, Francis, Dick, Patty and Judy. He was preceded in death by his father.
