Benhard Carl Marien, 84, Longwood Fla., formerly of Larimore, died Friday, March 8, 1991, at home.
Services were there Monday. A later service will be held this summer in Larimore. Local arrangements are with Bakke Funeral Home, Larimore. A memorial fund is planned. Memorials may be sent to the family.
Benhard Carl.Marien was born March 11, 1906, the son of John and Amanda Marien, near Larimore, where he grew up. He attended business school in Duluth. He married Nora Hjelmsted in October 1932 in Reynolds, N.D. he graduated from Southeastern University, Washington, D.C., and in June 1936 he was admitted to the Bar of the District Court for the United States and for the Bar of the District of Columbia in April 1937. He worked for the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service for 39 years. He was acting chief of the St. Paul Bureau from 1943 to 1946 and investigator from 1946 to 1969, when he retired. After nine years as a "snowbird," he retired to Florida in 1980.
Survivors are his wife , son, daughter, five grandchildren, sisters, Ellen Johnson and Elsie Moen, both of Larimore, and brothers, Alfred, Larimore, and Walter, International Falls, Minn.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Esther, and four brothers, Arthur Adolph, Edwin and Clarence.
